William⁷ Hunnewell (Elizabeth⁶ Fillebrown, Isaac⁵, Thomas⁴, Thomas³, Humpfrey² Phillibrowne, Robert¹ ffilebrowne)⁽²⁹¹⁰⁾ was born in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay May 19, 1759.⁽²⁹¹¹⁾ William died November 22, 1809 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, at 50 years of age.⁽²⁹¹²⁾ "His death is not found mentioned in the town records, which were imperfect at the time, but is it stated in the family Bible, Nov. 22, 1809, and in all the five newspapers in Boston."

William married Sarah Frothingham July 25, 1782 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹¹³⁾ The marriage was in the First Church of Cambridge.

Sarah was born March 20, 1763 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.⁽²⁹¹⁴⁾ Sarah⁽²⁹¹⁵⁾ was the daughter of William Frothingham and Hannah Hewson (or Newson). Sarah died October 18, 1835 in Charlestown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, at 72 years of age.⁽²⁹¹⁶⁾ She died in the home of her son, James, at 2:10 am.

Sarah, William Frothingham's child, resided with William in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹¹⁷⁾ He "lived in a large white house, with trees and grass-land around it, on the site of the present (1900) brick meeting-house near Porter's Station, N. Cambridge."

When Sarah was age 19 and William Hunnewell was age 23 they became the parents of William Hunnewell September 28, 1782 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹¹⁸⁾ December 8, 1782, Sarah, a Congregationalist, was a member of the First Church Cambridge in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹¹⁹⁾ On this day William and his wife Sarah "own the Covenant to Qualifye themselves to Receive Baptism for their children, by N. Appleton."

When Sarah was age 22 and William Hunnewell was age 26 they became the parents of Thomas Hunnewell June 27, 1785 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹²⁰⁾ When Sarah was age 24 and William Hunnewell was age 28 they became the parents of Joseph Hunnewell October 3, 1787 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹²¹⁾ When Sarah was age 26 and William Hunnewell was age 30 they became the parents of Charles Hunnewell October 29, 1789 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹²²⁾ When Sarah was age 28 and William Hunnewell was age 32 they became the parents of Hannah Frothingham Hunnewell January 16, 1792 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹²³⁾ When Sarah was age 30 and William Hunnewell was age 34 they became the parents of James Frothingham Hunnewell February 10, 1794 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹²⁴⁾ Sarah, as William's wife, resided with him in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts before 1795.⁽²⁹²⁵⁾ William "lived in the homestead until 1794, when he sold it and other real estate inherited from his father, and moved into the town."

When Sarah was age 36 and William Hunnewell was age 40 they became the parents of John Hunnewell October 18, 1799 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹²⁶⁾ Sarah was probably a free white female, age 26 and under 45, in William Hunnewell'S household on the 1800 Census in Charlestown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹²⁷⁾ In 1800 all of William's seven children were alive and all were under 18 years of age. If this is the correct family it is not clear why William born 1782, Thomas born 1785, and Charles born 1789 are not accounted for in the census of the household.

Sarah, James Frothingham Hunnewell's parent, resided in her later years with James in Charlestown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹²⁸⁾ The home was on Green Street.

If this is the correct family it is not clear why William born 1782, Thomas born 1785, and Charles born 1789 are not accounted for in the census of the household.

William's funeral was held November 25, 1809 at church/site unknown in Charlestown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁹⁴⁰⁾ "The 'Boston Patriot' for Saturday, Nov. 25, 1809, on p. 2, says, under the head of 'Deaths': 'In Charlestown, Mr. William Hunnewell, aged 50. His funeral will be this afternoon, at 3 o'clock, from his late dwelling-house, near the Navy Yard, which his relations and friends are requested to attend without further invitation.'" He was reported "at first a styled husbandman, and then in several documents, 1789 to 1810, a gentleman,"
