I have included a section on them in the 2d volume of my genealogy, The Colliers of Massachusetts. Fillebrown in 1910 states that he went with his mother and brother, Thomas, to live with his grandfather Caleb Kenrick; however, the Newton, Massachusetts, 1679-1779, Biographical Directory" by P.R. Ritter states that he went to live with his uncle Caleb Kenrick.

John served in the military circa 1776 in Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.(1703) John served in the military November 27, 1776 in Boston, Suffolk County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(1704) "Filibrown, John, Newton. Private, Capt. Caleb Brook's co., Col. Nocholas Dike's regt.; pay abstract for mileage to and from camp, etc.,dated Boston, Nov. 27, 1776; roll endorsed 'at Dorchester Heights.'"

John served in the military April 30, 1777.(1707) On "Capt. Amos Lincoln's co., Col. Crafts's regt.; list of men who received bounty ... (for) 8 months". He served until December 30, 1777. He was a private.

John served in the military September 17, 1779 in Castle Island, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.(1710) Shown on "Capt. Lincoln's (Artillery) co.; list of men entitled to 3 months stores." Castle Island was the tip of a peninsula extending into Boston Bay in South Boston.
