John4 Fillebrown (Thomas3, Humpfrey2 Phillibrowne, Robert1 ffilebrowne)(332) was born in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony October 12, 1672.(333) Birth Certificate indicates parents to be Thomas and Sarah but all other evidence indicates that this is the son of Thomas and Anna. John died October 23, 1756 in Menotomy (now Arlington), Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, at 84 years of age.(334) His body was interred circa October 1756 in Menotomy (now Arlington), Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(335) In 2001 Donald Edward Fillebrown found the grave of his 6 greats-grandfather John Fillebrown in the Arlington Burying Ground being "the graveyard behind the church which was the parish John and his sisters-in-laws founded. It was next to the library on the road the British marched to Concord on in 1775." The "Genealogy of the Fillebrown family" incorrectly reported that "the headstone of John has long been missing." from the Cambridge Burying Ground.

He married twice. John married Sarah Wyer about 1697 in Westfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.(336) Sarah was born May 5, 1678 in Charlestown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.(337) The birth place may have been Charlestown or Cambridge, MA Sarah(338) was the daughter of Edward Wyer and Elizabeth Johnson.

Sarah died October 16, 1716 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, at 38 years of age.(339) Her body was interred circa 1716 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(340) Burial was in the Cambridge Burying Ground at Harvard Square 47' from Garden Street. She was buried beside the body of her father-in-law, Thomas Fillebrown, and her son John Fillebrown who died a month later. Her Tombstone reads: "Here lyes ye Body of Mrs. Sarah Phillebrown, Wife to Mr. John Phillebrown; Who Died Octobr. 16th, 1716 in ye 39th Year of her Age."

Sarah, Edward Wyer's child, resided with Edward in Charlestown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts circa 1678.(341) She was baptized a religion unknown at the church/site unknown July 4, 1680 in Charlestown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.(342) When Sarah was age 20 and John Fillebrown was age 26 they became the parents of John Fillebrown October 12, 1698 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(343) When Sarah was age 22 and John Fillebrown was age 28 they became the parents of Mary Fillebrown November 5, 1700 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(344) When Sarah was age 25 and John Fillebrown was age 30 they became the parents of Thomas Fillebrown June 5, 1703 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(345) The birthplace also was reported to have been Boston.

Samuel) Cooke, and desire his answer (to serve as the first minister)." This area was designated as the Second Precinct in Cambridge or the Cambridge Northwest Precinct December 27, 1732. On June 9, 1792 the area became known as the District of Menotomy. On February 27, 1807 the area became know as West Cambridge and by 1848 the Church was known as the First Congregational Church, West Cambridge. On April 13, 1867 the area was incorporated as Arlington.

In Mary Browne's will May 15, 1696 in Charlestown, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, John Fillebrown was named as an heir.(359) "In this instrument she devised to kinsman Thomas Fillebrown (of Charlestown and Cambridge) and his three children, Mary, Thomas, and John; to daughter-in-law Mary Kemble (i.e., Mary (Brigden) Kemble, second wife of her son-in-law Henry Kemble); to Mary wife of Nathaniel Chapman of Ipswich; Sarah Bass; Abigail Voden; Joanna Everton; William and Mary Hough and her daughter Mary Brickneal; to Sarah Robinson; to wife of John Adams of Notomy. To Nathaniel Cary (Carey) of Charlestown she devised the house late belonging to her first husband, "Captain Founell." Executors were Nathaniel Chapman and Thomas Phillebrown) (Thomas Fillebrown), both of Charlestown, whose wives Mary Carey and Anna Fillebrown signed receipts (Pope, Pioneers, 179."

John Fillebrown sold land to R. Wyer circa 1697.(360) The 1910 Genealogy stated "He sold in right of his wife, to R. Wyer, a house in 1697."

When John was age 26 and Sarah Wyer was age 20 they became the parents of John Fillebrown October 12, 1698 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(361) John was elected an Inspector, for Menotomy March 10, 1700 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(362) The Town Records state" At a Meeting of the Inhabitants of Cambridge Orderly Convened for the CHoice of Town officers for ye Year Ensuing there were chosen Jn° Phillebrown (as a) Person to inspect the Yoakink and Ringing of Hoggs."

When John was age 28 and Sarah Wyer was age 22 they became the parents of Mary Fillebrown November 5, 1700 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(363) When John was age 30 and Sarah Wyer was age 25 they became the parents of Thomas Fillebrown June 5, 1703 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(364) The birthplace also was reported to have been Boston.

John Fillebrown sold land to W. Cutter circa 1704 in Menotomy (now Arlington), Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(365) He sold two lots in Menotomy, a district of Cambridge.

John Fillebrown purchased land from W. Symmes circa 1720 in Menotomy (now Arlington), Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay. The 1910 Genealogy states "He bought of ... W. Symmes two acres bounded east by Menotomy River, now Alewifes Brook, emptying into the Mystic River, bounded north by Creek to Garrets lot, west by highway, and south by Cambridge line, in 1720. Recorded in 1724. This was his homestead and lay between the streets now called Massachusetts Avenue and Broadway, on the east side if Winter Street, which is the fifth street east of the Soldiers' Monument, standing at the junction of the above streets."

At a second meeting of the freeholders and inhabitants ..... John Fillebrown was chosen treasurer."

John registered to pay taxes circa 1744 in Charlestown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.(385) He was also on the tax rolls in 1745 and 1746.

In the land sale between G. Cutter and John Fillebrown circa 1755 near Cambridge, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, 623F was named as an adjacent landowner.(386) The 1910 Genealogy states "... three acres and twelve rods of land bounded northwest by land of his father, John Fillebrown (now G. Cutters's), northeast by road to Woburn, east by land of W. Butterfield and W. Robbins, southwest by road from Cambridge to Concord; wife Suzanna, joins 1758." According to Wyman's the land was bounded by the following lands: to the NW land once owned by John Fillebrown but at the time by G. Cutter, to the NE by the road to Woburn, to the E by W. Butterfield and W. Robbins, and to the SW by the road to Concord from Cambridge.

John Fillebrown sold land to John Fillebrown, his son, circa 1756 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(387) The 1910 Genealogy states "With Edward Fillebrown and Gershom Cutter and wife Anne, he deeded to John Fillebrown of Cambridge and Charlestown, husband of Sarah Kenrick, house and barn in Cambridge and Charlestown, with nine acres of land bounded northeast by road through fields, southwest by Concord road, northwest by land of Moses Harrington, east by land of Edward Fillebrown; also, five acres in Cambridge and Charlestown, bounded northeast by Menotomy River, north by lands of W. Dickson, John Butterfield and the heirs S. Whittemore, south by land of Joseph Adams; with E. Fillebrown to G. Cutter the right in nine acres of land and buildings as before, together with two and three-quarters acres (of the above five-acre lot), 1756, recorded 1758; to G. Cutter one acre (of five acres) recorded in 1758, his wife Sarah, joining in the conveyance."

A visit to an ancestor's grave.(389) Circa 2001 Donald Edward Fillebrown visited the grave of his 6 greats-grandfather John Fillebrown. In addition to other activities, John was politically active. The 1910 Genealogy, page 5, states "John was first treasurer of the Cambridge Second Precinct set off in 1732. In Proprietors' Record, John Fillebrown (written each time ffillebrown, the first letter being doubled in place of a capital, as was frequently done in those days) appears as one of a committee of four chosen by the Selectmen of Cambridge at nine different times in the year 1724-30 to view and locate streets. He was Precinct Collector 1738."

John was baptized a Puritan, Church of England at the Cambridge Church circa 1698 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Province of Massachusetts Bay.(394) A cemetery visited.(395) On September 1, 1999, Charles Jerry Fillebrown and his wife Sue visited the grave of John Fillebrown in the Cambridge Burying Ground in Cambridge, Massachusetts. John is Jerry's half 4th great granduncle.

From February 27, 1807 the area had been known as West Cambridge. On December 27, 1732 the area had been designated as the Second or Northwest Precinct of Cambridge. Sarah married Richard Watts March 11, 1730.(399)
