John married Mary Elizabeth Blankenship October 27, 1943 in Pittsburg, Camp County, Texas.^(12566) They eloped because they were "afraid Mary's parents would think there was too much age difference between them".

Pleasant, Titus County, Texas.^(12570) A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the Masonic Cemetery with Danny Presley officiating. Interment was under the direction of Curry-Welborn Funeral Home. There was no formal visitation however; friends were invited to attend lunch at the Priefert Hanger following the service. Memorials were directed to the Cypress Basin Hospice, Empty Stocking Fund or the American Cancer Society.
