James⁷ Fillebrown (Thomas⁶, Isaac⁵, Thomas⁴, Thomas³, Humpfrey² Phillibrowne, Robert¹ ffilebrowne)⁽²⁷⁵²⁾ was born in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts August 7, 1786.⁽²⁷⁵³⁾ "He was born in the old 'Fillebrown House,' Spring Street in the area that became Arlington in 1867. James died July 5, 1872 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, at 85 years of age.⁽²⁷⁵⁴⁾ "He died at the home of his son James Rodman Fillebrown."

James married Weltha Piper December 31, 1818 in Baltimore, Windsor County, Vermont.⁽²⁷⁵⁵⁾ Weltha Piper was the sister of James' brother-in-law Rufus Piper.

Weltha was born February 9, 1796 in Baltimore, Windsor County, Vermont.⁽²⁷⁵⁶⁾ Weltha⁽²⁷⁵⁷⁾ was the daughter of Noah Piper and Unknown (________). Weltha died September 24, 1858 in Cavendish, Windsor County, Vermont, at 62 years of age.⁽²⁷⁵⁸⁾ When Weltha was age 23 and James Fillebrown was age 33 they became the parents of Hannah Fillebrown November 21, 1819 in Windsor County, Vermont.⁽²⁷⁵⁹⁾ The birth took place on the family farm at Hawk's Mountain.

James was employed at his farm as a farmer in Hawk's Mountain, Windsor County, Vermont circa 1819.⁽²⁷⁷³⁾ "He took up a farm on the summit of Hawk's Mountain, between Baltimore and Weathersfield, and erected a strong log-cabin. Here, two miles away from their relatives at the base of the mountain, James and his Baltimore bride had their full share of thrilling experiences with the wild beasts of the forest, which not only ate up their corn, but threatened the lives of themselves and their children. One incident of this period was that the husband came near the loss of his life by cutting his foot while felling trees. When he failed to come home to dinner his wife found him, white and faint from loss of blood. Managing, with great difficulty, to get him home, she at once set off down the mountain for the doctor. Of this cabin on Hawk's Mountain, only the foundation of the chimney remained standing when it was visited by his descendants a few years ago (circa 1910)."

James was employed at various places as a Brickmaker in Hawk's Mountain, Windsor County, Vermont circa 1819.⁽²⁷⁷⁴⁾ "Having learned brick-making when a boy, James was accustomed, between farming seasons, to go south to work at his trade leaving his brave wife to care for the cabin and the children, who were soothed to sleep with lullabies of bears and panthers. One night, hearing strange noises, she descended the ladder from the sleeping-loft to dispatch a visiting porcupine which had worked its way under the foundation into the cabin."

His son's service was indicated to be in the "C H Vermont Inf.".

James Fillebrown and Weltha Piper had the following children:

446 ix. Henry Green Fillebrown⁽²⁷⁹⁹⁾ was born in Cavendish, Windsor County, Vermont March 13, 1843.⁽²⁸⁰⁰⁾ Henry died April 2, 1865 Petersburg, Virginia, at 22 years of age.⁽²⁸⁰¹⁾ "He was killed at the Battle of Petersburg ... in ... the last hours of the (Civil) war. At the time, Corporal Fillebrown was on furlough, earned by having presented the most soldierly appearance of all non commissioned officers in his regiment; hence he was excused from service on that day. But he had been with his regiment in its every engagement of the war, and he would not permit it to go into battle without him." The Siege of Petersburg began about June 9, 1864 and ended April 2, 1865 when the Confederate lines were breached. The struggle for Petersburg has no equal in the entire war in terms of the number of battles fought and of lives lost in its defense. Petersburg was the transportation hub of the Confederacy and without Petersburg, Richmond was doomed. Lee surrendered April 9, 1865 at Appomattox and the war ended. His body was interred April 1865 Petersburg, Virginia.⁽²⁸⁰²⁾ He is buried at the National Cemetery at Marker 1586.

Henry served in the military circa 1861 in Cavendish, Windsor County, Vermont.⁽²⁸⁰³⁾ He was a Corporal in Company C., Fourth Vermont Regiment during the "War of the Rebellion" until his death in 1865.
