Willis married Gussie M. Stevens November 18, 1880.⁽⁹²⁹⁸⁾ Gussie⁽⁹²⁹⁹⁾ was the daughter of Levi Stevens and Ann Chandler. Gussie died January 5, 1914 at 58 years of age.⁽⁹³⁰⁰⁾ When Gussie was age 25 and Willis (William) E. Hayward was age 25 they became the parents of May Sybil Hayward October 9, 1881 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.⁽⁹³⁰¹⁾ She may have been born in WInthrop.

When Gussie was age 27 and Willis (William) E. Hayward was age 27 they became the parents of Lloyd Russell Hayward June 2, 1883 in Winthrop, Kennebec County, Maine.⁽⁹³⁰²⁾ When Gussie was age 29 and Willis (William) E. Hayward was age 29 they became the parents of Guy Edwin Hayward October 18, 1885 in Winthrop, Kennebec County, Maine.⁽⁹³⁰³⁾ When Gussie was age 31 and Willis (William) E. Hayward was age 31 they became the parents of Aida Hayward July 15, 1887 in Winthrop, Kennebec County, Maine.⁽⁹³⁰⁴⁾
