167. Capt. Charles Berry⁶ Fillebrown (Capt. John⁵, ⁴ UNCONNECTED LINES, Thomas³ Fillebrown, Humpfrey² Phillibrowne, Robert¹ ffilebrowne)⁽²⁰⁰²⁾ was born in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts December 16, 1804.⁽²⁰⁰³⁾ He is probably the second child in the family of the same name.This date is from a Bible record in possession of Misses Southward in 1918. The record is unclear however there may have been a child of the same name baptised in North Church December 25, 1803 that died in 1804 according to a Grave Record in Greenlawn Cemetery. It would not have been unusual for a name to be "reused" in those times. Charles died December 6, 1845 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, at 40 years of age.⁽²⁰⁰⁴⁾ The "Genealogy of the Fillebrown Family" reported the date to be December 1, 1845. He died of dropsy.

Circa 1809, Charles, a denomination unknown, was a member of the North Church in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁰¹¹⁾ It is probable that the family belonged to North Church throughout its time in Salem. The son John was Baptised there in 1797 and the second Charles Berry was baptized there in 1804. Daughtrer Sarah Cox Fillebrown was buried there in 1836.

Charles was employed as a seaman in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts March 21, 1832.⁽²⁰¹²⁾ A "Seaman's Protection Certificate" number 242 was issued on this date by the Customs District in Salem.

When Charles was age 29 and Eliza Cox was age 28 they became the parents of Charles Frances Fillebrown December 2, 1834 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts.⁽²⁰¹³⁾ Bible record in possession of Mrs. Arthur L. Pattee in 1918.

Eliza died April 7, 1843 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, at less than one year of age.⁽²⁰²²⁾ She died of whooping cough at the age of 4 months according to the Salem Gazette.
